Wastewater treatment plant Dresden-Kaditz: Commissioning of the exhaust air treatment plant at the sewage sludge loading station
Due to complaints from the local population about unpleasant odors, HOLINGER’s (Dresden office) were commissioned in 2019 to plan two exhaust air treatment systems at the Dresden-Kaditz sewage treatment plant. The work included the new construction of a 12,000 m³/h exhaust air treatment system for the sewage sludge loading station and replacing an existing exhaust air treatment system for connected sludge storage tanks with a 12,000 m³/h capacity.
During preliminary planning, a wide variety of problem-solving concepts and procedures were explored and evaluated using the client's weighting criteria. Furthermore, odor measurements at the sewage sludge loading and connected sludge storage locations provided the information needed to determine the total capacity requirements of the new exhaust air treatment systems. Ultimately, Stadtentwasserung Dresden GmbH chose a photoionization process for the exhaust air treatment, which HOLINGER then planned.
The plans for approval required special efforts. For the exhaust air treatment system at the sewage sludge loading point, the authorities required an application in accordance with the Federal Immisions Prevention Laws as well as the building application, which we prepared. In addition to the involvement of external experts, this also required the incorporation and use of a new digital application program, that is specific to Saxony (ELiA).
Construction and assembly work on the sewage treatment plant began in the spring of last year. Despite the ongoing delivery difficulties, especially of fittings and pipes, the exhaust air treatment plant at the sewage sludge loading facility was put into operation at the end of 2021.
Stadtentwasserung Dresden GmbH published an article about the project on Thursday, December 23, 2021 in the Sächsische Zeitung part of the Dresdner Zeitung newspapers.
In 2022, conversion work will continue with connection to the new exhaust air treatment system at the sewage sludge loading station. The assembly work and commissioning of the second replacement exhaust air treatment system will also be completed along with the final test operations of both systems.
